News

September 13, 2002 - Tom Brady was voted the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.  Congratulations, Tom -- way to start off the season.

September 10, 2002 - The Patriots smashed the Steelers last night with a whopping 30-14 win.  Although a lot of people thought the score should have been 37-7, the Patriots nonetheless had an awesome night...including Tom Brady.  He threw for almost 300 yards (264 to be exact), 3 TDs, no interceptions and had a quarterback rating of 110%.

August 10, 2002 - The Patriots played in their first preseason game against the New York Giants.  Brady played in three series, completing 7 of 11 passes for a total of 104 yards.  Although the Patriots lost (Final score was 22-19, Giants), they showed off their new players and put up a good fight.  Of course, preseason doesn't count, so expect the Patriots to come out with a bang in their regular-season games.  Injured Troy Brown and DT Richard Seymour, notably, didn't make the trip to the Meadowlands.  Read the report from the official Pats site here.

July 26, 2002 - Training camp began today for the New England Patriots.  Check out the In Practice page of the Photo Gallyer

July 11, 2002 - Well, the Jay Mohr Sports Show was great...but the ESPYs were even better.  Check the photo gallery for pictures of Tom winning his first ESPY ever, for Best Breakthrough Athlete!  Robert Kraft presented the award to him, and he said a few words about Tom.  Tom graciously accepted the award and thanked his family for their support.  Very well spoken.  We're all proud of you, Tom!

July 8, 2002 -  Watch Tom on Jay Mohr's sports show on ESPN, July 9 at 8 p.m. EST.  And,  look for Tom in the Quarterback Challenge on CBS Sports, July 13 and 14, from 4-5 p.m. EST. The quarterbacks will participate in four events: speed and mobility (yikes), accuracy, long distance, and read and recognition. In addition to battling for bragging rights, the quarterbacks are competing for $125,000 in prize money.  And if Tom isn't enough motivation to watch, add Aaron Brooks, and Peyton Manning, and Jeff Garcia to that list...haha.  And don't forget those ESPYs, baby...okay, I've been watching the Shaft...oops, Samuel L. Jackson... ads too much (why do I always think of him as Shaft....?).

June 20, 2002 - Tom has teamed up with Dunkin' Donuts, signing a deal for a product promotion.  It is supposed to run late summer through fall.  He'll be doing TV ads, as well as radio and print.  The press release also said it will give "some lucky Dunkin' Donuts consumers the opportunity to meet Brady."  More info on that as soon as I get it!!  You can read the Yahoo! article by going to the Articles page.

June 19, 2002 - I've created a Tom Brady online fanlisting, so go and join! http://www.geocities.com/tombradyfans/ .

June 9, 2002 - Tom has been nominated in the 2002 ESPY Awards under Best NFL Player AND Best Breakthrough Athlete.  The Patriots were nominated under Best Team (of course we all think they should win!) and Super Bowl XXXVI was nominated under Best Game.  Adam Vinatieri's kick was nominated under Best Moment, and Bill Belichick was nominated under Best Coach.  Tune in to ESPN on July 10 to see the results. Time TBA
There's a new book out on Tom called, "Tom Brady - There's No Expiration Date on Dreams", written by Rich Wolfe, available in Shaw's Supermarkets.  Click here to find out more.  I believe the Buy Now link is unavailable as the books have been transferred to Shaw's.

Super Bowl XXXVI Ring (Patriots.com)

June 7, 2002 - MiniCamp started yesterday for the Patriots.  Photos available under Pictures/In Practice.  They receive their Super Bowl rings (finally!) this Sunday, during a special dinner.  Of course you'll find pictures of those here!

May 20, 2002 - An article in Sports Illustrated's SportsBeat had a blurb about Tom.  Here's the piece:

Being the quarterback of a Super Bowl-winning team has its perks.  Just ask Patriots pinup Tom Brady, who now counts Hollywood starlets among his groupies.  Turns out Tara Reid, the sultry siren of the American Pie movies, got a charge out of seeing Brady lead New England to its last-second victory in the big game and asked her agent to set her up on a date with the quarterback.  Brady was flattered but ultimately not interested.  Makes you wonder who does make his cut.

April 21, 2002 - Drew Bledsoe was traded to the Buffalo Bills while the NFL Draft was going on.  Tom had replaced Drew after Drew was injured in Week 2, suffering a sheared blood vessel in his chest and massive internal bleeding.  Although Drew almost died, he recovered well enough to begin playing again.  Coach Belichick and the rest of the Patriots coaching staff, however, gave the job officially to Tom before the Week 11 game against the New Orleans Saints.  Tom brought the team to the Super Bowl, but not without the help of his mentor and good friend who won the AFC Championship game when Tom injured his left ankle.  Drew will be greatly missed in New England, and we all wish him success in his future career  at the Bills.  With the quarterback "controversy" out of the way, it will be interesting to see what Tom can do on his own next season.  In other news, Tom will be having a new backup.  The Patriots drafted Rohan Davey (H: 6-2, W: 245, DOB: 4-14-78) LSU in the quarterback position.  Damon Huard will continue to be part of the Patriots quarterback threesome.

April 13, 2002 - Tom is on the cover of Sports Illustrated.  The cover says "The Natural: A Whirlwind Off-Season for the New Prince of the NFL."  The article is called "Cool Customer", by Mike Silver, and features an enjoyable story about Tom's past and his future, including quite a few pictures.  Check your new stands, the buy is well worth it!

April 2, 2002 - The Patriots traveled to Washington D.C. today and were welcomed by President Bush at the Rose Garden.  Among those present were Tom, of course, Drew Bledsoe, Lawyer Milloy, Adam Vinatieri, Troy Brown, and many other notable Patriots.  Several New England senators attended as well.  After a congratulatory speech, President Bush was named an honorary captain by Patriots owner Robert Kraft and was given an Pats #1 jersey with his name on it.  Robert Kraft said a few words and then Coach Belichick presented the President with a team-autographed Super Bowl XXXVI game ball.  President Bush thanked the Patriots for coming and proceeded to shake hands and take pictures with members of the team.  Memorable moment: It appeared as though Tom was chewing bubble gum as he shook hands with the President.

April 1, 2002 -Tom and several of the Patriots threw out the opening pitch of the Red Sox game today.  Memorable moment: Tom Brady and Nomar Garciaparra hugging after the pitch. =)

April, 2002 - Tom was a judge at the 2002 Miss USA beauty pageant.  Press release as follows:
Tom Brady

Twenty four-year-old quarterback for the New England Patriots and NFL Superstar Tom Brady, became a household name and overnight sports sensation at the close of one of the closest-played Super Bowls in history -- XXXVI. An Organizational Studies major at the University of Michigan, Brady was also the youngest player to win the Super Bowl MVP. He went 11-3 as a starter in the regular season and 14-3 overall. A talented athlete, Brady was also drafted in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball draft as a catcher by the Montreal Expos.
