Teams

~ New England Patriots ~
   2000-present
    Head Coach: Bill Belichick

Tom was chosen as a sixth-round draft pick and began his career with the Patriots as fourth-string quarterback.  He played against the Cleveland Browns in 2000 during garbage time.  During the off-season, Tom worked out continuously, putting on more weight and muscle.  During training camp the next season, the coaches noticed so much improvement that he was allowed to compete for the backup position, which he won.  The first game of 2001, he sat on the sidelines, but after starting QB Drew Bledsoe (played 1996-2001 with Pats) was severely injured by the New York Jets' Mo Lewis, Tom was upgraded to the starting position.  Because he was so successful as team leader, he was allowed to keep his starting job throughout the season (officially named starter between the games against the Rams and the Saints), although he did not finish the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers for the AFC Championship (injured ankle from Lee Flowers' hit).  Tom went on to win Super Bowl XXXVI and was chosen to play in the Pro Bowl.  Stay tuned during the upcoming season!

~ Michigan Wolverines ~
   1995-2000
    Head Coach : Lloyd Carr

Tom red-shirted his first year at Michigan and, the next year, was back-up to Brian Griese, who led his team to the National Championships. Tom only played in two games that year.  In '97, he played in four games, but in '98 he finally became the starter.  He received an All-Big Ten Conference honorable mention and was a pick for the Academic All-Big Ten. He completed 214 of 350 passes(61.1%) for 2636 yards and 15 touchdowns (only Jim Harbaugh has more with the Wolverines).  In 1999, he was selected for the second-team All-Big Ten Conference--he completed 214 of 341 passes (62.8%) for 2586 yards (ranks 3rd for season-record at Michigan), 20 touchdowns and just six interceptions! Only Elvis Grbac (21 in 1990, 25 in 1991) had more touchdown passes with the Wolverines.
